The potential danger of mass transit came to reality this morning when two public transit vehicles were involved in a collision, along with a third vehicle. The accident, which occurred at the intersection of 41st Street and Chester Avenue in West Philadelphia, at 11:45 am involves at least 31 injuries.
The label “fake news” has gained acceptance since the Trump candidacy and presidency took hold on our country. It seems that in countless news outlets, both online and traditional, this label is tossed at anything a writer may disagree with---or that his funding source disagrees with! As 2018 comes to an end Locks Law Firm looks back on one of the most significant years of our long existence. 2018 saw the departure of a number of key attorneys due to various reasons, including transitioning to new firms, untimely passing and retirement. The year also saw major milestones in various cases and litigations being handled by the Firm.
As 2018 draws to a close I find it beneficial to look back at what has happened, what I’ve done and the roads I’ve traveled. It’s a practice that I was introduced to years ago by a former client. After I resolved his matter we were chatting about things unrelated to his case when he surprised me with a question: “So: are you satisfied with how you spent your time this past year? Anything good happen?” I’ll admit I was flummoxed: I had never thought to have asked that question of myself before.

The National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act of 1986 originally created the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (VICP), a no-fault alternative to the traditional tort system. The VICP is administered by the Division of Injury Compensation Programs, Healthcare Systems Bureau of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and is venued in the United States Court of Federal Claims in Washington D.C. The VICP is entirely separate from the traditional tort lawsuit claims that one might expect with personal injury. The VICP was created because we recognize as a country that vaccines are good for the common benefit, however, in rare instances some vaccines can cause certain side effects. In order to stabilize vaccine costs and prevent vaccine shortages related to lawsuits from these rare occurrences, the legislature created the Vaccine Injury Compensation Program. This program established a Compensation Trust Fund that is funded by a $.75 tax on each vaccine that is recommended by the CDC.
