Alfred M. Anthony, one of New Jersey’s most prominent mass tort and class action attorneys, has joined Locks Law Firm as a partner working out of the firm’s planned North Jersey office, as well as its Cherry Hill, NJ, and New York City offices.
Anthony comes to Locks Law Firm from Wilentz, Goldman & Spitzer, P.A., where he spent the last 23 years developing a practice specializing in environmental contamination, chemical exposure, benzene exposure, asbestos exposure, pharmaceutical torts and products liability litigation.
In 1994, Anthony established legal precedent in New Jersey by certifying the first toxic exposure personal and medical monitoring class action (Russo v. Allied Signal). As a result of the settlement, a 30-year medical monitoring program was established for people who played on a chromium contaminated ball field in Jersey City, NJ.
In 1997, he received the Association of Trial Lawyers of America’s Outstanding Achievement Award for his work on behalf of 427 Pompton Lakes residents in an environmental contamination suit against DuPont that resulted in a $38.5 million settlement (Pompton Lakes, NJ v. DuPont).
Anthony also has played key roles in several other environmental contamination suits and chemical exposure cases, obtaining “very positive” results for his clients, said Michael Leh, Managing Partner of the Locks Law Firm. Within the past two years, Anthony certified two additional class actions in New Jersey and New York, representing over 38,000 victims of environmental contamination. Both have been upheld on appeal.
“Al is a very skilled trial lawyer who has dedicated his life to representing the interests of wrongly injured individuals and ensuring that they are justly compensated for their injuries,” said Leh. “Al and I both feel that he will be a perfect fit for the firm. We are very pleased to welcome him to the Locks Law team.”
Anthony has been continually recognized for his ability to represent those in need. He was named a New Jersey Rising Star and NJBIZ Forty Under Forty recipient in 2006.
He has been selected for inclusion in New Jersey Super Lawyers from 2008 to present, as well as the New Jersey Best Lawyers in America list from 2010 to present. In addition, Anthony has been selected as one of the National Trial Lawyers’ Top 100 Trial Lawyers, and has been a member of the elite Million Dollar Advocates Forum since 2012.
Anthony is a member of the American Association of Justice, the American Association for Justice Benzene Litigation Group, and the Middlesex County Bar Association. He also serves on the Board of Governors of the New Jersey Association for Justice.
He is also very active in community and civic affairs, and was elected as Mayor of Livingston, NJ, earlier this year.
