MR. MICHAEL A. GALPERN: The Consumer Fraud Act is a law or, more technically, a series or set of laws designed to protect the average individual, the consumer. Quite often, a consumer is not either sophisticated or as knowledgeable in a various area of commercial practice as is, for instance, a commercial lender, a retailer, an automobile dealer, a bank, a credit card company. These are just some examples of instances in which we have seen unconscionable commercial practice. For an individual who has been the victim of an unconscionable commercial practice, to fully protect his or her legal right, it's important to consult an attorney with experience in consumer fraud protection, consumer protection statutes. These statutes are a labyrinth in a set of various statutes, and they vary state to state. For instance, in New Jersey, where we handle and protect consumers, there is a different set of laws than there are in Pennsylvania, where we also have a very ongoing, active commercial practice or consumer protection practice. Pennsylvania and New Jersey are different from New York, where we also handle these types of cases. If you've been the victim of an unconscionable commercial practice or think you were or may have been a victim of an unconscionable commercial practice, you need to consult an attorney who understands law, who's experienced in this area. You may not even know that the person or the entity with whom you've done business, with whom you've bought or sold a house, with whom you've purchased a car or with whom you have a credit card or various other contractual obligations. That entity may not be treating you fairly, and you just don't understand it. Something doesn't feel right. Well, you need to consult with an attorney who understands law in this area, who can read the contracts, read the paperwork and compare it to the statutes and the existing case law. There are laws on the books in all 50 states that are designed to protect a consumer, to protect a buyer or a seller of property or somebody who takes out a credit card. Businesses should do business above board. They should treat people fairly and honestly. And by and large, they do. But unfortunately, and it's not that uncommon, we have various businesses or various entities that don't treat people fairly. They cut corners. They use unconscionable commercial practices. That's where you need an attorney. That's where we step in. We will consult with you at no charge. We will examine all of the circumstances and facts surrounding your transaction, your practice, what you've gone through, and we'll advise you whether or not you have been the victim of commercial fraud or consumer fraud and whether or not there are various consume protection statutes that apply to protect you, and if so, we will work diligently, we will work hard to protect your rights to see that you get a remedy, to see that you're compensated for your loss.
