MR. KARL FRIEDRICHS: There are over two million residents in over 20,000 nursing homes and assisted living facilities in the United States currently. These residents are parents, grandparents, former teachers, leaders in business. Too many of these residents are victims of abuse and neglect, improper care leading to bedsores, broken bones, death, safety and security breaches leading to assaults and unexplained injuries. The common theme that we have found in handling these cases is that these nursing home facilities are understaffed and for the employees they do have, they are under-trained.
Federal and State guidelines are not being followed despite the fact that over $75 billion per year is given to these facilities by Government Agencies such as Medicare and Medicaid and a recent New York Times article on the nursing home neglect problem has quoted that 70% of lawyers that used to do this type of work are no longer handling nursing home cases because of the fact that the cases have become too complex or too difficult or expensive to handle.
What the latest big business effort has been is to create corporate structures to confuse attorneys and make it difficult to know who to sue when you’re suing a nursing home. The Locks Law Firm remains committed to dedicating the time and resources to handle these type of cases.
