Asbestos Exposure New York

The state of New York has long been an industrial capital. A number of industries, including manufacturing, printing, and shipping, have called the Empire State home. Many of these industries have manufactured or made use of asbestos products. As a result, thousands of blue-collar workers such as plumbers, electricians, insulation installers, and pipefitters have been subjected to occupational asbestos exposure. Many New York workers became unwitting victims of workplace exposure to the dangerous carcinogen. Years later, these workers have been diagnosed with mesothelioma, asbestosis, lung cancer, or another asbestos-related disease. If you are a Manhattan, Queens, the Bronx, or Long Island-area asbestos exposure victim, a mesothelioma lawyer can help you obtain fair compensation. Contact the Locks Law Firm to schedule a free consultation and case review.

Asbestos Exposure after the Events of 9/11

Those involved in the rescue, recovery, and cleanup at the World Trade Center after the attacks of September 11, 2001, comprise another group at risk of developing an asbestos-related disease. Because asbestos was used in the construction of the WTC's North Tower, hundreds of tons of asbestos fibers were released into the atmosphere. Those at Ground Zero – including firefighters, police officers, paramedics, construction workers, and volunteers – are at a high risk for mesothelioma and asbestos-related diseases. Others in close proximity to the WTC are also at risk.

One study found that nearly 70 percent of WTC rescue and recovery workers suffered new or worsened respiratory symptoms while performing work at the WTC site. The study found that about 28 percent of those tested had abnormal lung function tests, and 61 percent of those without previous health problems developed respiratory symptoms.
