New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania VIOXX® and Bextra® Lawyer

VIOXX® and Bextra® were both withdrawn from the market because of the risk the drugs posed to users. Findings showed that both drugs could lead to severe and potentially deadly cardiovascular trauma to patients, including heart attack and stroke. At Locks Law, our dedicated personal injury lawyers are committed to protecting victims' rights. Our New Jersey, New York, or Pennsylvania VIOXX® and Bextra® lawyer team has assisted hundreds of families in recovering under the global VIOXX® settlement. Our team is actively pursuing Bextra® litigation for those who have been harmed by this dangerous litigation.

About VIOXX®

The drug VIOXX® belongs to a class of COX-2 selective, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) that are used to eliminate or reduce agents in the body that cause inflammation, fever, and pain. VIOXX® was originally placed on the market as a prescription drug to treat osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis (including some types of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis), migraine headaches, acute pain in adults, and menstrual pain. The class is similar to non-selective (over-the-counter) NSAIDs like ibuprofen and naproxen.

Other side effects of VIOXX® include abdominal pain, intestinal bleeding and vomiting blood, nausea, unexplained weight gain, fatigue and lethargy, yellowing eyes, liver and kidney toxicity, and unexplained bruising and bleeding.

About Bextra®

Bextra® was pulled from the market in 2005 by its manufacturer, Pfizer, because of risky side effects. Like VIOXX®, Bextra® is a COX-2 selective, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug that is used to eliminate or reduce pain stemming from arthritis. The drug works by altering and reducing the production of prostaglandins in the body. Prostaglandins are chemicals that promote the inflammation of arthritis and cause the pain, swelling, and tenderness associated with arthritic joints. Bextra® blocks one of the key enzymes necessary to the production of prostaglandins.

Bextra® Side Effects

The more common side effects of Bextra® include headache, abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea and flatulence, and insomnia. However, more severe side effects of Bextra® include heart failure, stroke, kidney failure, fainting, chest pain, ringing in the ears, deafness, stomach and intestinal ulcers, bleeding, blurred vision, anxiety, photosensitivity, weight gain, water retention, flu-like symptoms, drowsiness, and weakness. Bextra® can cause serious long-term injury and death, in which event Pfizer can be held liable.
